The League of Cucurbit Nations – This display represents just some of the countries around the world that lend to TGPP’s fine cucurbit harvest each year. Our pumpkin, squash and gourd specimens are indigenous to over 30 countries that define the varied types of growing terrain, climate, resources and cultures available. We’ve traveled the globe to consolidate the 300+ varieties grown on our 63 acres of lush, fertile, Central Illinois soil, to place these gems within your arm’s reach. All you need to do is visit our farm . . .no passport necessary!
The Wall O’ Squash – We are able to stage about 200 of our 300 varieties on this wall, which showcases the diversity within each of the five main Cucurbitacea species. This display is an awesome and grand structure that stretches high and wide to accommodate such an assortment.
Noah’s Ark – This winsome display captures the two-by-two aspect of the perseverance of a family, an existence, a world . . . with a cucurbi-tiny twist! This is one of many examples of TGPP’s fine craftsmanship, inspiration and playful nature to be enjoyed by fans of all ages.
The Pumpkin Tree – This is truly one of the longest running displays of the entire Patch, and certainly one of absolute recognition that defines The Great Pumpkin Patch. And this display stands very proudly at the center of all the exciting hustle and bustle. Come and be a part of it!
Giant Corn Shock Tower – This display reinforces the importance in society of corn and all its amazing by-products. The mammoth size of this tower represents the enormous role of our corn crop throughout time. And it respectfully pays tribute to the unwavering efforts of the humble farmer.
The A to Z of Squash – This display gives us the opportunity to salute all the squash names that literally range from A to Z. Within these names lies the expression of diversity, ingenuity, exploration, history, science, art, necessity – all united by the basics of the A-B-C’s.
Restored One-room Schoolhouse – This is Center School, and it is rich with the history of rural life. This simple building speaks volumes indicating from where we’ve come. The structure is authentic, the artifacts are original. This is literally the real thing! We have certainly come a long way. Sometimes it takes only a few steps into the past to propel us miles into the future, keeping a firm grip on our sense of appreciation every step of the way.
Wanda’s Haunted Crib – This may be the first time you hear this, but “this is for the faint of heart.” We have intentionally designed Wanda’s Crib as one of the mildest haunted environments into which you’ll venture. We do want our little visitors to enjoy the flavor of the season, and we find that not inducing nightmares can be very enjoyable. Still, we do encourage the adults to scope it out first before letting their little ones in – just to play it safe!
Museum & Bridle Gift Shop – In one portion of our barn near Admissions, we have housed our historic museum. Come through to view many old, authentic farm artifacts, family stories with restored original photographs, some filmed events that are looped on a TV screen, and a sensory exhibit for children of all ages that offers an abbreviated venue for “Exploring the Patch.”
And just next door in this same barn is where you’ll find our Bridle Gift Shop known for its wide range of collectibles, keepsakes, décor accessories, snacks, CDs, books, games, crafts, toys, season fashions and gift wares, and countless other boutique items that simply must be explored. Truly you will find some things here that we challenge you to find anywhere else.
